Few people have worked on energy issues from as many different perspectives as Anders Ådahl. Having held senior positions in the energy industry, academia and politics, he brings an unusually broad view of the challenges shaping tomorrow's energy system.

Battery energy storage systems (BESS) perform frequency control services that help balance the electricity system. Research shows that deterioration and profitability vary significantly depending on how BESS is used and which frequency services companies offer.

This study highlights the importance of the GDL microstructure in governing transport processes inside the cell. By understanding how the fibre architecture influences both gas transport and the distribution of hydrophobic materials, it opens up new design strategies to improve fuel cell performance and durability.

We are happy to announce that the Swedish Electricity Storage and Balancing Centre will continue as a competence research centre. The Swedish Energy Agency has decided to prolong the funding for five more years. 

We congratulate Chunshuo Ge for successfully defending her Licentiate thesis: "Mapping global value chains using customs data – the case of energy storage technologies".

Benedick Allan Strugnell-Lees, PhD student at Chalmers University of Technology, is developing battery ageing prediction models optimised for second-life usage within the SESBC project “Optimal usage and properties of battery storage units using 2nd life batteries”.
